BREIWERK 
Beret vir ‘n dame
Die term “garing” beskryf enige draad wat opgedraai is as ‘n bol, tol of string. Die vesel en doel van die garing omskryf dit verder bv. wolbreigaring, katoennaaigaring of mercer hekelkatoengaring. Die maklikste wat vir jou as lid bekombaar is mag gebruik word.  
Vereistes
Die strewe moet wees na ‘n modieuse artikel wat aantreklik, netjies en professioneel vertoon.
  • Breidraad is deelnemer se eie keuse
  • Patroonsteke moet geskik wees.
  • Yl Kantagtig patroonsteke nie geskik nie. Dit verloor fatsoen,
 Wenke 
  • Kies geskikte patroon met patroonsteek
  • Let op na dikte van naald en spanning. Dikte van die naald beïnvloed jou spanning. Brei ń proefstuk indien jy twyfel.
  • Moet nooit in die middel van jou ry ophou brei nie.
  • Moet nie naalde deur breiwerk druk nie dit rek jou breiwerk.
  • Let op na jou aanheg en afheg.

KNITTING
Beret for a woman
The term for thread describes any kind of thread that can be in a ball, a spool or string. It can be described as wool, thread or mercer crochet string. Use what is easiest to get hold of.
Requirements
The aspiration is to get a modern, attractive, neat and professional look.
 Thread is for the participant’s own choice
  • Stiches must be appropriate
  • Lace patterns are not appropriate. It loses shape.
 Tips
  • Choose an appropriate pattern with the correct stich.
  • Use the correct needle to get the correct tension.  Knit a sample when in doubt.
  • Do not stop in the middle of a row.
  • Do not force needles through knitting as it will stretch the knitting.
  • Pay attention to cast on and cast of.
  • Sew up, press and trimmings.

HEKELWERK: Hekel ‘n Pols sierband met Krale.
Vereistes:
Krale moet minimum 25% van die totale bandoppervlak beslaan.
Dit moet effe kantagtig wees en plek-plek hekelsteke sonder krale vertoon. (met ander woorde, nie 100% met krale bedek wees nie.)
Moet geskikte, gepaste vasmaakmiddel hê.
Minimum breedte: 5 cm.
Krale moet nie met ‘n enkeldraad aangeheg word nie.
Riglyne:
Gebruik enige dikte hekelgare van jou keuse.
Verskeidenheid krale en motiewe is toelaatbaar.
Netheid is uiters noodsaaklik vir hierdie artikel.
Styl en passing sal krediet verdien.  Let op na regte en verkeerde kant van hekelwerk.
Beplanning asook konstruksie metode sal hier ‘n baie groot rol speel.

CROCHET: Crochet a Fancy Wristband with beads.
Requirements:
Minimum 25% of the total band area must contain beads.
The crochet work must be lacy and show some bare crochet stiches. (Do not cover 100% of the band with beads)
Attach a suitable fastener.
Minimum width: 5 cm.
Do not attach beads with a single crochet thread.
Guidelines:
Crochet thread is your own choice.
Different beads and motives are permitted.
Neatness is crucial.
Pay attention to right and wrong side of the wristband. Credit shall be given for style and fit.

Riglyne:
  • Speel met teksture, kleure en tegnieke
  • Bruikbare tekstielstof wat was en stryk kan hanteer
  • Gebruik masjien se siersteke, daar is verskeie maniere om appliekwerk aan artikel te plaas, maak gebruik daarvan
  • Spieëlbeeld kan ook gebruik word
  • Stabilisering en garing speel groot rol veral as siergaring gebruik word. Die stabiliseerder moet by die tipe materiaal pas. Vilene kan as stabilieerder gebruik word.  Moenie wegwas stabiliseerder gebruik om die artikel mee te verstewig nie.
  • Watteersel kan gebruik word vir opstopwerk.

WATERVERF
Sonsopkoms of Sonsondergang
Beplan a goeie ontwerp en komposisie.  Maak gebruik van helder kleure en sterk waardes vir hierdie projek. Hierdie kunswerk moet gedoen word op waterverf papier.
Vereistes
  • Waterverf word gewoonlik op wit papier gedoen.
  • Gebruik die korrekte papier vir waterverf met ń effense tekstuur wat die verf in plek hou en nie die kleure opbreek nie.
  • Gebruik geskikte kleure vir die tema.
  • Enige metode kan gebruik word. (Nat op nat, nat op droog, ens.)
Wenke 
  • Gebruik korrekte papier soos vir waterverf.
  • Die wit van die papier is gewoonlik die lig in die eindresultaat.
  • Onthou genoeg lig of skadu in die eindresultaat
 
 WATERCOLOUR
Sunrise and sunset
Plan a good design and composition. Use vibrant colours and strong values for this project. This painting must be done on paper specific for watercolour.
Requirements
  • Watercolour is usually done on white paper.
  • Use paper with a slight texture that will hold the paint in place and do not break up the colour.
  • Use colours that are appropriate to the theme.
  • Any method can be used. (wet on wet, wet on dry, etc.)
  
Tips
  • Choose the correct paper for watercolour paint.
  • The whites in watercolour usually come from the white paper.
  • Remember highlights and lowlights.
 
BORDUURWERK
 Item :  Stekeboek
 Maak jou eie bordursteekboekie – of “sampler” soos in Ouma se dae- wat jy na die volgende geslag naaldwerkers in die familie kan aangee.

 Wat is ‘n “sampler”
 Die woord sampler kom van die Franse woord essamplaire, wat beteken enige soort werk wat as voorbeeld gebruik en nagedoen kan word. In die vroegste vorm is dit saamgestel as n persoonlike verwysing vir ‘n borduurster: proefnemings van patrone en steke wat van ander gekopieer is en aantekeninge van effekte wat verkry is en weer gebruik kon word. Dit was dus ‘n bron van patrone en steke wat gebruik kon word voordat daar gedrukte ontwerpe was.
Met die maak van die boekie kan jy steke en tegnieke probeer wat in jou smaak sal val in n verskeidenehied van materiale en kombinasies. Ontdek die wêreld van borduur!
  
Benodighede: 
  • Goeie kwaliteit materiaal.  Daar word soveel tyd aan borduurwerk bestee dat dit goed is om die beste gehalte materiaal te kry wat jy kan bekostig.
  • Naalde. Die dikte van die naald moet pas by die dikte van die borduurgare.
  • Borduur/kroelborduurnaalde no3-8 Algemene borduurnaalde. Gebruik met 3 tot 6 stringe stringkatoen, sy, rayon en fyn wol, no8 en 12 perle en metaalgare.
No 9 en 10 kroelborduurnalde: geskik vir fyn werk met 1 of 2 stringe stringkatoen, sy, rayon. Nie geskik vir boeljon knopies nie aangesien die oog te groot is.
Chenille naalde 18-24, geskik vir dikker gare soos tappisserie wol, 6 stringe stringkatoen, no3 en 5 perle, dik sy en swaar metaal. Ook geskik vir lintborduur en wolborduur.

  • Borduurgare: Ons probeer altyd om borduurgare van goeie kwaliteit te gebruik.
  • Dit moet kleurvas wees, nie maklik breek nie en nie donse maak nie.
  • Stringkatoen word aanbeveel, dit het ‘n blink voorkoms en jy kan soveel van die 6 drade gebruik as wat jy verkies.
  • Rayon, pêrelgaring, wol, kantmakersgaring en metaalgaring is almal geskik. Dit moet egter by die materiaal en steeksoort pas.
 
  • Stekegids:  agtersteek, knoopsgatsteek en komberssteek, Bokhara-hegsteek, oorslagkomberssteek, boeljonsteek, kettingsteek, Franse knopies, kort en langsteek, veersteek, Visgraatsteek, kruissteek, kabelsteek. (Hierdie is maar net ‘n paar van die steke wat gebruik kan word)’n Minimum van 20 steke word vereis.
 
Konstruksiewerk
  • Konstruksiewerk moet netjies uitgevoer wees. Randafwerking (soom, ens) moet pas by die ontwerp en die artikel komplimenteer.
  • Grootte: Voltooide grootte nie groter as 23cm x 16 cm nie.’n Buiteblad en binneblaaie word vereis.
 Wenke
Maak n studie van die verskillende borduursteke en besluit dan watter steke jy gaan gebruik.
  • Beplanning, grootte, tipe materiaal, ontwerp, kleur, materiaal en garing.
  • ‘n Borduurraam is noodsaalik in die uitvoering van egalige borduurspanning
  • Geen kralewerk of enige ander elemente mag gebruik word nie
  • Begin vroegtydig - afgeskeepte afwerkings doen dikwels afbreek aan ‘n goeie borduurstuk.
  • Voltooide artikels mag nie gewas word nie.
  • Parafering en datering. Dit verhoog die waarde van ‘n borduurstuk en word aanbeveel.

What is a "sampler?"
 The word sampler comes from the French word essamplaire, which means any kind of work that can be used as an example. In the earliest form it is compiled as a personal reference for an embroiderer: trials of patterns and stitches copied from others and notes of effects that were obtained and could be used again. It was thus a source of patterns and stitches that could be used before printed designs were available.

​ Requirements:
Good quality fabric. There is so much time spent on embroidery that it is good to get the best quality fabric you can afford.
 
Needles. The thickness of the needle must match the thickness of the embroidery yarn.
Embroidery / crochet embroidery no3-8 General embroidery needles. Use with 3 to 6 strings stranded cotton, silk, rayon and fine wool, no8 and 12 perle and metal yarns.
No. 9 and 10 crochet embroidery: suitable for fine work with 1 or 2 string stranded cotton, silk, rayon. Not suitable for bullions because the eye is too big.
Chenille needles 18-24, suitable for thicker yarn like tapestry wool, 6 strings stranded cotton, no3 and 5 perle, thick silk and heavy metal. Also suitable for ribbon embroidery and wool embroidery.
 
Embroidery yarn: We always try to use good quality embroidery yarn.
 It must be color-proof, not easy to break and not fluff.
 Stranded cotton is recommended, it has a shiny look and you can use as many of the 6 threads as you prefer.
Rayon, perle, wool, and metal yarn are all suitable. However, it must suit the fabric and stitch type.
 
Stitch guide: backstitch, buttonhole stitch and blanket stitch, Bokhara stitch, chain stitch, bullions, chain stitch, French knots, long and short stitch, feather stitch, fishbone stitch, cross stitch, cable stitch. (These are just some of the stitches that can be used) A minimum of 20 stitches are required.
 
Construction
  • Construction must be carried out neatly. Edge finishes (seams, etc.) must complement the design and the article.
  • Size: Completed size no larger than 23cm x 16cm. A cover and pages are required.
 

Tips
  • Make a study of the different embroidery stitches and decide which stitches you will use.
  •  Planning, size, type of fabric, design, colour, and yarn.
  •  An embroidery frame is necessary in the performance of even embroidery tension.
  •  No beads or any other elements may be used.
  •  Start early - Neglected finishes often detract from good embroidery.
  •  Completed articles may not be washed.
  •  Initials and dating. It increases the value of embroidery and is recommended.

Requirements:
Diverse types of appliqué may be used
Laundry bag must close with a drawstring
Outside pocket must have a suitable closing method
Both the sewing and appliqué will be judged
Guidelines:
  • Play around with textures, colours and techniques
  • Suitable fabrics that complement each other and that can be laundered should be used
  • Make optimal use of your sewing machine’s decorative stitches
  • Mirror images may be used
  • Stabilising of appliqué may be done. Don’t use wash away stabiliser; Vilene is allowed.
  • Decorative threads may be used and should compliment your fabric
  • The method used for closing the outside pocket is very important.

Rules for Nail and String art

  1. Colour and string thickness must be appropriate for the project.
  2. Make sure to use the correct nails. (Colour and thickness)
  3. Knots must not be visible in the end product.
  4. If the board is painted it must be smooth and colour must compliment the end result.
  5. String must be neat and taut.
  6. Any type of string can be used e.g. raffia, wool, string.
  7. It must match the design.

Tema: Die Tandemuis.
Taalgebruik, sinskonstruksie, korrekte spelling, leestekens, paragrawe en ‘n goeie storielyn dra by tot ‘n taalkunswerk.
Emosie, spitsfondigheid, humor, ‘n stukkie verassing, eie ondervinding en fyn waarneming kan bydra tot ‘n goeie Tandemuis storie. Kan in Afrikaans of Engels geskryf wees.
AANTAL WOORDE: 350-400 woorde, getik of geskryf. Hoeveelheid moet handgetel word. Onderaan die storie moet die aantal word wat gebruik is, aangedui word. Leestekens tel nie as woorde nie.
AANBIEDING: Getik of geskryf op A4 papier. Indien getik, dan nr 12 grootte en enkel spasiёring in Arial of Calibri font.
Deelnemer se naam, van, tak en Provinsie word op ‘n toegevoude papier agterop die A4 papier met ‘n kleefbandstrook geheg . Liefs nie aan die sakkie nie.

Writing: Prose
Theme: The Tooth fairy
Language, sentence construction, correct spelling, punctuation, paragraphs and a good story-line will be relevant to a masterpiece.
Emotions, simplicity, humor, surprise, own experience and descriptive/imaginative explanations will all contribute to a good Tooth fairy story.
NUMBER OF WORDS: 350-400 words, typed or hand written. The number of words used must be indicated below the story. Punctuation marks not included in word count.
PRESENTATION: Typed or written on an A4 paper, using font size 12 with single spacing in Arial or Calibri style.
A folded paper with participant’s name, surname, branch and name of province must be placed on the back of the A4 paper and attached with cellotape. Do not place the details on the plastic file holder.
The A4 paper must be presented in an A4 plastic file holder.
